Spring Break on the East Coast! Part Two

Unfortunately, although I spent two-and-a-half days in DC, I only have photo documentation of the first one. But that was the day we actually went out and did things, so I suppose it works out.

So on that Saturday we woke up oddly early and made breakfast. Well, Lauren made breakfast for me and Mike. Eventually Mike left to go back to New Jersey for, if I remember correctly, his mom's birthday (in addition to it being Georgetown's spring break). Lauren and I cleaned up and showered, and then proceeded to do the Washington, D.C., tourist-y things. So we hopped on the subway and went to the White House.









And of course it wouldn't be a legitimate visit to DC without seeing a protest outside of the White House. And to be honest, I don't even remember what they were protesting. I think it had to do with Iraq, guessing by the flag. But I'm not sure what exactly the reason for the protest. Hm...





There was another protest going on too, for something in Yemen that I have also since forgotten.



Then we went on to the National Mall/Memorial Parks area and visited all the monuments and memorials.

Unfortunately the reflecting pool was being renovated or something, so this is my typical picture of the pool from the Lincoln memorial... minus the water or looking nice at all.



Eventually we headed to Union Station and got Taco Bell, then went back to Lauren's apartment. We kind of bummed around for a few hours and watched a movie, then went to this really cool Harlem renaissance style bar for a drink.

Sunday was super rainy all day, so Lauren and I kind of stuck around her place for the majority of the day. We went out in search of shamrock shakes from McDonald's, but the closest one to Georgetown had an out of order shake machine. So we went to the one in Chinatown, and this one ran out of the shamrock flavor. So we accepted defeat and settled for strawberry (or at least I did). Then we walked back to Georgetown and watched Garden State. Or Little Miss Sunshine. I forget--we watched 3 movies that day. We also ordered pizza and bummed around some more.

Monday was my last day in DC (I had to catch a train to Baltimore and fly out of BWI at like 6:30), so we figured we'd go out and do some shopping in the city. So we went to the three story Forever 21 and shopped around there for an hour or so, and then gave up on shopping. We walked through the city some more, went back to Georgetown, got something to eat, and then I headed back to Baltimore, and then Detroit.

I'd never taken a spring break trip really, so this was fun. I missed Lauren a lot and I'm glad I took the opportunity to go see her.
